My favorite quote: Facts are stubborn Things. Only it has been
attributed most recently to Ronald Reagen, most often to John Adams, who probably
appropriated the saying from Smollet, a translator of a French novel,
authored by Alain-René Lesage in early 1700s. Lesage in turn may have repeated
the phrase found in two early (anonymous) articles.
So, the Fact is, we don't know the exact origin, but Lesage brought it to
the attention of a wider audience, and Adams introduced it to our
politicians.
Still, as a scientist, I agree with this saying - and it matches my
personality.
