Have a question on what I observed. Location: southwest part of Alabama. Time of day: about 6:00 PM local. Weather was clear and hot, about 90º F.
When I went into the hive, hive body and two IL supers, I noticed the bees tending to run on the frames. As I worked into the hive, they started a loud roar as if queenless. But, I found brood in all stages of development. and found no evidence of any queen cells being constructed. The colony seemed well populated with the bees actively flying. I did not think to notice if there was pollen being brought in although there was a good amount of pollen stores.
Does anyone know what these observations indicate? Might I have just lost the queen in the previous 24 to 72 hours? Not sure if I saw any eggs. Will have to look again. I'm stumped here with what I saw.
