Pete, this discussion is very interesting, and I didn't mean to sidetrack
it by nitpicking about semantic details  : )

I'm curious as to what causes a haploid drone from an inbred population to
be weaker?  Is it a cytoplasmic or epigenetic effect?

On the subject of recovery of allelic diversity from a bottleneck, some
studies indicate that an important factor is how quickly the bottlenecked
population expands.  The quicker the expansion, the less loss of genetic
diversity.

This is especially true with honey bees, since any colony contains the
genetic diversity of not only the queen and her parents, but of the 10-40
drones that she mated with!
