Which is why I put "self pollinating" in quotes. Also why just about every
"self pollinating" tree comes with the caveat that bees will help the
process along in the "transfer pollen from anther to stigma".

The general, non-scientific gardening literature is fairly consistent with
its use of "self pollinating", usually comparing it with "open
pollination". So I agree with Gavin in the misuse of the word but its
general acceptance.

Dave, I hoped you would jump in. I look to you for all things concerning
bees and pollen. Thanks.
