(Lindauer 1956) observed foraging distances in
cerana being much longer in flat terrain than
they were for uphill foraging.

Are there any recent studies or observations
for A. mellifera concerning forage distance
in different terrains?

I wish to compare this to what the ancients
believed.

Columella believed, if beehives were located
at the foot of the mountains, workers would forage
a greater distance uphill, being assisted by
the ability to carry return loads downhill.

Thanks in advance.
