I'm confused by the sudden flurry of mainstream news reports about deformed wing virus being spread by varroa mites. It seems to be a response to a study/studies on the impact of the arrival of varroa in Hawaii, and the subsequent increase in dfw occurance. We've known for some time that dfw is spread by varroa and exacerbated by varroa infestation - is there something new in this research that we didn't know, or is it just that the mainstream media is picking up on it for the first time?
