I've done a cursory search in the archives but couldn't find any applicable reference to my question. I am located about 100 miles north of the Gulf shore in Alabama. We typically have flight weather every week of the year, even in winter. Occasionally we will have a week when the bees can't fly but rarely does that weather persist for two or more weeks.
My question is, generally speaking, how much honey should I leave on my hives (strong hives) to carry them through the winter. Typically the bees start bringing in new pollen and nectar at the end of January. Last year was unusual in that nectar and pollen continued to be brought in throughout the entire winter.
