List members have been reminded periodically to be certain, when
replying to to messages on BEE-L, to delete or edit the attribution
lines inserted by some unthinking email software.
Attribution lines are usually completely unnecessary and in addition are
sometimes incorrect and/or offensive. They can make a message seem
accusatory and personal rather than part of a round-table conversation.
Leaving attribution lines out, or -- at minimum removing email addresses
-- is simply a courtesy to other members, since posting email addresses
of others on a public forum or list the web is bad form.
LISTSERV very thoughtfully restricts access to email addresses of those
posting to BEE-L so they are visible _only_ to registered list members,
in order to protect addresses from 'bots.
That precaution is entirely wasted when members post addresses
attribution lines when replying, essentially giving away the email
addresses of other list members in plain view.
Spam-bots constantly cruise the web looking for freshly posted email
addresses, assuming they are current, and bombard them with junk.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't use attribution lines which include email
addresses, and needless to say, do not forward emails without removing
any email addresses that are not absolutely necessary.
Some of us have industrial-grade Spam filters and seldom see Spam, but
many do not.
Please be considerate, or moderation may have to start rejecting posts
which compromise the privacy of others.
Thanks.
What is an attribution Line? See below for an example:
