A bee yard I have that is near some early blooming sliver maples
has dysentery, the front of the hives are a real mess. We had a week of
summer like weather and then they where confined to the hive because of
snow, wind and cold. I squashed some bees and took some pictures through
the eye piece of the microscope. I took about 20 pictures and only a few
came out I had to play with the camera settings, a cheap Olympus but after
some adjustments I got it to work.

Randy's method of bee guts directly on the slide is easy. I have plastic
cover glass slides and I cut them in half and put five bees on a slide. If
the bees guts had been watery I may have not got five on a slide but they
were thick and most were full of pollen. Very quick way to check I like it,
will be easy to do in the bees yards
