> Lots of small-scale beekeepers can go several years without treatment if apiaries are very small.
I have a very small apiary, 8 hives. Our local club has one with six hives. I don't know of any large apiaries in the vicinity, but these small apiaries are plagued by mites, and the resultant brood disorders.
I find it very frustrating, especially since we have a main honey flow in late August/early September, making us delay treatment until it is already very late.
A lot of folks in NY and Ontario used MAQS. In fact, the suppliers sold out. And you have heard the reports: some had very severe queen losses. In areas where all the honey is off the hive by the end of July, you have no idea what we go through.
