Bob Harrison asked about using muriatic acid on concrete floors prior to
painting.
AFAIK, muriatic acid is a weak form of sulfuric acid, which makes it
relatively safe for amateurs to use. But 'relatively' is key. It is still
highly corrosive and will burn skin and I don't even want to think about it
getting into eyes.
I've used it numerous times without difficulty. I have vinyl, full length,
aprons. I have not used a respirator or mask...but one should probably do
so. I have had 50% solution get on my hands, and it is hot! But when
quickly rinsed with water there was no blistering.
For cement, I used it highly diluted. Perhaps a 5% solution. Let sit for
15-30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Paint as soon as feasible after
rinse.
Hope this helps,
Lloyd
