I heard Jerry Hayes, the Chief of Apiary Inspections at the Florida
Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, speak in north GA earlier
this month. To paraphrase, his department's position is that in Florida *
ALL* feral honeybee colonies, and particularly swarms, should be
eradicated. Their concern though is not regarding the spread of disease
among kept colonies, but rather the proliferation Africanized bees in that
region.
