Hello All,
A paper recently published on the web concludes that about 25 chelifers (= pseudoscorpions) in a hive might prevent 1000 varroa from multiplying.
Fagan, L. L., Nelson, W. R., Meenken, E. D., Howlett, B. G., Walker, M. K. and Donovan, B. J. 2011: Varroa management in small bites. Journal of Applied Entomology.
A video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qw3eVjQPXQ shows a chelifer attacking varroa.
Whether one or more species of chelifer will ever prove to be useable for control of varroa is at present unknown.
Regards,
Barry Donovan
