Plants, through photosynthesis, build their bodies from the carbon in CO2
and give off the oxygen. Possibly higher CO2 levels from burning fossil
fuels will lead to accelerated vegetation cover of the Earth which, through
deposits of leaves, trunks etc, as well as mosses, ferns, phytoplankton etc
will, in the very long term, trap the carbon in fossilised layers and so the
wheel will turn again. It may just be possible that some humanoid creatures
will still be around then. With their track record, bees are more likely
to be around than we are!
