I think it is a great idea. Around the 1950s in the state of SC they had a
terrible blow fly problem. Or at least it was some kind of fly.
The deer population was headed into the bucket as they were dying from
infections/complications brought on by these flies when the deer had open
wounds, it was basically a death sentence.
The government (not sure if it was the feds or SC) started releasing sterile
(irradiated) flies. This stopped the fly problem and deer made a great come
back in SC. While I no longer live in SC I can vouch for the huge deer
population. Deer season in SC is the longest in the nation (Aug 15 - Jan
1). I have killed a lot of deer in SC and have seen quite large herds of
them. Just this last fall while visiting my mom who lives in a small town,
around 10 ran out of the back yard.
How do I know this. An uncle that was an avid hunter and fisherman told me
about it a long time back.
