Are you suggesting that they can do such a thing? I would have thought that
40C (body temp) would be deadly to the bee/s.
Thanks, Juanse, I was referring to 37C. A bee readying itself to take off
shivers to warm its flight motor up to about 100ºF (37-38C), and typically
maintains it at about 95ºF (35C). Honey bees are able to fly at
temperatures that would kill most other insects. A heater bee in the brood
nest may spike to 105F (40.5C), if I recall correctly.
