It would help when comparing wintering configurations and experiences to be able to compare climates as well. North is not always colder and dryer. Elevation and bodies of water have a big impact. The fact much of the lower great lakes have been unfrozen the last several years has moderated temperatures and increased snow fall south and east of the lakes. If Ari is near the coast his climate may be moderated considerably relative to his northern laditude.
The site below provides a simple comparison for temp and precip of two locations.

Note that Red Deer (close to Allen) is considerably dryer than Ottawa (Me) which is considerably dryer than Dorset Vermont.
Ari, are you close to Helsinki or is there a better city for comparison?
Peter
