For most purposes that do not need 100% precision (most us, most of the
time), squares are marked off on the boards and only half or fewer of
the squares are counted, depending on the mite density and the accuracy
required. The squares are selected to have a probability of being
representative.
Someone wrote an illustrated article on this having established ht
proper size of squares and the proper ones to count. Was it Diana?
