I did not see mention of where you are located, how much you 
plan to feed and at what time of year.  The number of hives and
your level of experience is also unknown.  Also, we do not know 
what type/size of colony will be fed, or why.

All these need to be known before we can offer more than 
very general comments.

Personally, my thinking is that you could save a penny and lose a
dollar unless you can find out exactly what this material is and be
very sure that it will not kill or weaken your bees and/or 
contaminate your equipment.
