It is my assessment that conflating belief and knowledge is a default-state for humans. It takes an uphill battle of intellectual rigor to offset this natural tendency.
I see such rigor in Allen, Randy, and a few others here. Like good posture, I try to practice it, but inevitably and frequently catch myself slouching.
