I've been talking to some folks about timelines for beekeeping events in
US; find some differences of opinion; so I'm asking Bee-L.
We've discussed this before, and I think Stephen Taber III and perhaps
Harry Laidlaw wrote this up in a short pub in one of the US bee journals, but
WHEN (date) did they bring in sperm from Brazil for breeding trials with
AHB? Anyone have the citation to the pub?
Also, when did migratory beekeeping for ALMOND pollination start? Then
shift from relying mainly on CA beekeepers, to longer distance migrations
begin (from states like the Dakotas and TX)? When did it become economically
feasible to ship from as far away as NY and FL? Obviously, the rental
price jump after the 2006/07 CCD event was part of cross country movement - but
were many beekeepers moving that far prior to the rental price hike?
And finally, when did Canada first close its borders to bees from US
(post-varroa)?
Any dates with some form of citation or confirmatory data would be
appreciated.
Thanks, Jerry
