Just more than 10 years ago I was accompanying a prominent researcher
through the labs bee yards, and asked how the hive entrances were kept
clear of weeds. I was told "Roundup". I asked if there was any worry
about harm to bees and was told "I don't think so, we have inadvertently
sprayed them on landing boards and have never seen any ill effect".
Since, to this day, I have not hesitated to use Roundup in my yards. While
I do not deliberately spray bees at hives' entrance, I know I have
especially when I spray in between hives; I use hive stands. I have never
observed any ill effects.
