> I disagree with Allen's position they have no or few viable options.
Sorry, but that is not my "position". I don't have one, and I question
anyone who has one that he tries to apply to everyone else. I am merely
reporting what I have seen and heard, and wondering about it.
The first an most obvious thing to keep in mind, and one thing that keeps
this list aside form other forums is that the members here are not
sloganeers and try to understand a problem from all angles. That includes
understanding and respecting the other guy's point of view and appreciating
that everyone's situation may be different and that just because something
works for one, it may not work for others. The narrow positions and
panaceas that are so popular elsewhere get a rough ride here.

That is a fortunate story in that he had the financial depth to pay the fine
and make the changes. Many may not. I don't know if you took in the lesson
in finance here recently, but right now, money is hard to find and getting
harder by the day. Anyone without a quarter or half a mil handy and liquid
may have to make do with whatever he has right now until things get better.
Many are hanging by their fingernails. Some people may say, "Serves them
right", but I would call such a person an insensitive an ignorant jerk.
Good thing no one said that. Yet.

Personally, I think of thymol as a nasty chemical and suspect we may someday
soon hear that it is not as good an idea as many think. That is just my
suspicion.

Now there IMO is the answer and the ultimate answer for quite a few
problems. Better stock. This has been a problem in that it got off to a
false start. Many are working on getting it out to the beekeepers now.
Among others, Marla has recognized the gap and is devoting her time to
getting stock improvements into the production lines which feed the
industry.
The problem is that not everyone has been able to obtain advanced stock at
the times required, or test it out and prove it works in their situation.
Also, many early adopters got burned at first when genetics did not measure
up to the hype and the reviews have been mixed, so others are holding back.
> He would have sang a duet with Allen 5 years ago.
What does that mean? Do you misunderstand what I am saying to that extent?
I am just reporting what I hear and see. The future may be already here,
but it takes time to recognized and get distributed. The current financial
calamity which continues to spread has not helped in that many cannot change
if it means admitting that what they are doing does not work, and melting
their outfit, so they carry on as best they can and the best they know how.
Myself, I have not medicated for years, never used coumaphos, avoid
fumagillin, consider thymol questionable, and have a strain of bee (or think
I do - there have been some hiccoughs) which are supposedly resistant to
various problems and am planning to obtain more and different strains.
