My own hive-design explorations have lead me to want to compare hive capacities, across platforms. How do you compare the capacity of a Langstroth to a KTBH? Obviously, apples-apples comparisons are impossible, but I wanted something that would give me an ability to *estimate* capacities for the sake of comparison.
Internal volume seemed the easiest approach, but was discarded as being too blunt a knife.
Calculating (maximum possible) linear comb face seems good enough for comparison, although it doesn't reflect variations in comb width/thickness. It also isn't applicable for the non-linear comb of Warre Hives, which kicks us back to the blunt knife of volume.
I'd like to poll others on their thoughts: Has such a methodology been established already? Does anyone have any approaches they'd like to suggest?
