As a former state bee inspector, this makes me cringe. An un-managed colony has the potential to be a source of foulbrood for the whole neighborhood. In most jurisdictions (at least in the US) it is illegal to own a colony of bees that does not have moveable combs to allow inspection. A hive in a wall or attic is a nuisance, like a skunk under the floorboards. Sooner or later, you will regret "leaving them be," same as the skunk. I would get them out quickly, alive or not.
