Some clovers are reputed to be too long in the floret for honey bees' tongues. The wild white, Trifolium repens, is reputed to be the best. I know that in the years after I started keeping bees on my allotment 33 years ago the clover in the pony paddock next door increased noticably. In effect, by pollination, the bees were creating their own pasture.
