Those lucky enough to be members of the Scottish Beekeepers Association
get free compensation for up to 10 hives along with their ridiculously cheap
membership fee of 25 UK pounds (it also pays for the monthly magazine).
In England, membership of the BBKA costs about £14 (including the BBKA
News!) + your branch fee. It includes Foulbrood cover through BDI for, I
think, your first 2 hives and you pay a trivial amount for each extra colony you
have (or expect to have) that year.
As, for the time being, there are no border restrictions and bugs can
travel freely between our countries (and Wales) wouldn't it make sense to
combine the insurance schemes to give better strength in numbers, spreading the
risk and the load further?
