You'll have to ask the researchers why they are
conjecturing.
My only concern at this time is to support my
conjecture that a single pathogen or single
factor is not sufficient to cause a colony to
collapse from CCD. And I will do this by quoting
from a few 'conjectures' provided by leading
researchers in the field.
"Previous attempts to find the cause of CCD
failed to identify a single factor that explained
all cases of CCD (Cox-Foster et al. 2007,
Johnson et al. 2009b, vanEngelsdorp et al. 2009)"
"Pathogens might be causing the end result of
a collapsed colony, but other factors are causing
sickness in the bees," - Dennis vanEnglesdorp
"This CART analysis provides evidence that CCD
is likely the result of several factors acting in concert,
making afflicted colonies more susceptible to disease."
