Did the beekeeper reporting queen loss after MAQS have any hives not treated to compare to? It might not be the treatment.
I have seen an incredible queen loss (actually supersedure and swarming) in my hives which have not been treated this spring. Yesterday I tried to move a batch of queen cells out of one hive (a virgin appeared to be eating them) and into another. I had to open 5 hives before I found one that had a queen and did not have swarm cells.
I would say that over half of my hives that had a queen produced any time last year are now queenless. Most of the queens were not what I would consider old, as they were raised in September. In retrospect I should have split them all in half and requeened both halves right after almonds. Oh well.
