I ran a university insectary for a couple of years, and learned that allergy
to insects is fairly common to those doing so. I myself developed allergies
to a particular cockroach and to wax moth scales. However, such allergies
are manifested in the usual manner--itchy eyes and sinuses, not the sort of
generic tiredness your writer is describing.
