This is a very good example of a logical fallacy. The mere fact that numbers are increasing does not mean it is "working". The numbers of obese individuals are rapidly increasing (15% in 1980 to 35% now); overeating is on the rise. This is hardly beneficial to the health of those individuals, although it is certainly good news to the folks that sell fattening food.
