No Black Locust here. I checked my Peterson Field Guide which shows the range
ending southeast of Lake Erie

Bob, I think your Peterson's shows the natural range. I don't know your area
very well, but I'd be surprised if there were no black locust there, since it's
all up and down the river. I think you know my friend Rusty, with whom I keep
bees on his farm a bit south of you. There you'll find a dozen mature trees
standing 80 feet or so, and many more smaller ones. Where I live in Streetsville
(where every year we have a "Bread and Honey" founder's festival) there are
about 10 stands of black locust in a mile stretch of the river, some with 60 or
70 trees. They generally come into bloom the first week of June (though this
year they were two weeks early).
