Well you read the subject and thought that is strange. Trouble is that I do not know.
We use a single box in Thailand and the brood and honey all go together. You extract honey in season every four days by spinning all the frames in a hive which includes the brood ....
I want to explore the alternatives and so I have asked a woodworker to help me and I have two hives nearly completed which will allow supers to be mounted on top of the brood box. As soon as the work is complete I will then build up the brood to eight or ten frames and if possible then add a second super to double to the colony size / strength. So far so good. The work is to modify the existing system used here rather than build a Langstroth hive for example.
I know at the beginning of the honey season I can add a queen excluder and a super. But please tell me how many frames do you add to that super and when? Is it a small number until they get going or do you add eight frames or what?
When do you add subsequent supers?
Sorry this should appear a totally dense question but things are a lot different here.
