Here is a shining example of references that lead nowhere. The first author refers to "some scientists" who believe CCD is caused by imidacloprid and cites Yang. But in that paper, they also assert the claim that imidacloprid is "suspected" to cause CCD. 

> Several theories have arisen to explain CCD. Some scientists … believe it is caused by sublethal doses of the agricultural insecticides imidacloprid or clothianidan, which can cause bees to become disoriented and lose their way home (Yang et al. 2008). -- in "The Effects of Pesticide-Contaminated Pollen on Larval Development of the Honey Bee, Apis mellifera"

> One of the phenomena of colony collapse disorder (CCD) reported recently is that a large amount of bee workers die in the field. The mysterious cause for CCD has been suspected to be some systemic insecticides such as imidacloprid. -- in "Abnormal Foraging Behavior Induced by Sublethal Dosage of Imidacloprid in the Honey Bee"

We are never really told who suspects it. Obviously, these authors do, but they don't say they do. Instead they claim "some scientists suspect" etc. Next, they will be cited as the authorities who proved that pesticides cause CCD.
