I prefer ants to wood roaches. I usually just brush or knock ants off onto ground. Quit using cinnamon a long time ago after someone said it wasn't good for the bees, also didn't like messing with it. If they are unusually persistent and annoying the bees, then I use my propane torch on them for next 2-3 visits. That generally takes care of both the ant and roach issue. Don't see many carpenter ants, just the very small black ants that can move amazingly fast for their size and that build up huge populations around the rim of inner cover. I also don't like them crawling by what seems like thousands on me....agitates the bees and they tend to sting more.
