* By allowing susceptible bees to die, one may inadvertently select for a variety of traits and/or features, such as 1) vastly reduced colony density; 2) avirulent mites; 3) bees with viral insertions such as discovered by Maori, et al. These are natural occurrences, of course, but aren't necessarily what a beekeeper who is trying to obtain "naturally resistant" bees would be aiming at.
