Bil, thank you for sending that export of the European standard for organic beekeeping certification. One request for clarification:
Section 4.2(b) sets an unambiguous 3 km radius in which essentially all nectar and pollen sources are from organically produced crops and/or spontaneous vegetation.
Section 4.2(c) however requires that the apiary be distant "from any non-agricultural production sources possibly leading to contamination" but does not say how far away is enough. (Listed examples include: urban centres, motorways, industrial areas, waste dumps, waste incinerators, etc) Is there any guidance available defining how far is enough for the non-agricultural sources? For example, have the regulators required you to be 3 km from a motorway? Or is 300 m enough?
I suspect that using these standards it would be impossible to find a qualifying site anywhere in the US (and nearly impossible in most of Europe) and would like to create a map to test that hypothesis. Don't see how to do that with the ambiguity in 4.2(c), though.
