There are over 20 types of robinia pseudoaccacia. Some exceptionally ornamental with pink flowers. Robinia viscosa is much rarer but said to yield twice as much nectar.
Robinia p. does have thorns of varying size which disappear from the lower part of the tree as the tree gets older and the bark furrows. Not an issue unless you are planning to climb the tree on a regular basis. :)
