One summer we fed a lot of syrup to bees at the Dyce Lab. Dr. C. had us add anise oil to the syrup to get the bees to take it quicker. A couple of guys doing construction at the lab told me that was a real dumb move on account of: anise oil is used by hunters to *attract* bears. They said, if you want bears to know where the hives are, that's the way to do it. They can smell it miles away.
