Since varroa and the viruses settled into North American beekeeping
operations, many operators tell me that they now run fewer hives per
employee than they used to.
There are many different styles of operation, with somme doing "intensive"
management--trying to get as much out of every single hive as possible (my
management strategy).
At the other extreme is "extensive" management--going for sheer numbers,
with a lower return per colony.
Both strategies can work, but there are "sweet spots" number wise for each,
i.e., they may not be linearly scalable.
