<Kimberley beekeepers want to move their bees to the eastern states to help
with pollination, but aren't allowed to transport their hives through the
Northern Territory or southern WA, because the Kimberley has a bee pest
known as small hive beetle.>
The hive beetle will spread and only proliferate where conditions are best for it, ie. warm and humid. Even still, one learns how to manage for it. Preventing the movement of bees is futile and counterproductive to beekeepers.
We deal with them and have learned management techniques that work. In the beginning it was a bit unnerving, I must say.
