OK, my 2 cents worth! I only have a couple hives and don't quite understand
why killing the entire hive is necessary. Why isolate the hive-assuming
that can be done, requeen and knock down the mites with whatever treatment
used and let attrition take care of the less than acceptable bees.
This may be a naive approach but I can't see killing an entire hive because
the queen's genes are not considered acceptable.
