The hive is off the ground so as to make sure the First Pooch and the First Bees don't have an accidental meeting. The hive is strapped to the stand so as to make certain the prop wash from the helicopter traffic to the South Lawn does not tip the hive over. Combined, the two precautions make working the hive a bit different than what most of us have to deal with, but Charlie does a good job.
