Dr. Larry Conner recommends placing colonies that produce the drones for your queen rearing operation 1/4 to 1/2 mile away from the mating yard. For those of you that do rear drones for mating with your queens; how far, both minimum and maximum, do you place your drone producing colonies? I'm located in the southern most range where the winds blow primarily from the west. Would it be better to place the drone colonies to the east of the queen rearing yard?
