>In Australia and a few places in the US (I don't know about other
countries) sterilization of wooden hive components is achieved by immersion
in hot paraffin/resin solution.... The related cost the last time I checked
was about US $3.00 per deep hive body.

Alf, I've used a hot paraffin/rosin tank for over 25 years to treat all my
boxes, lids, and bottoms. It's way cheaper than $3, and I'd never go back
to paint! (Some folk do paint over the wax when hot). It sterilizes AFB
equipment, and the wood NEVER rots. I've got photos of various hot tanks,
and plan to publish all one of these days.
