Hi Bob:
Is it correct that your auger hole hives had a hole in the front of
> each box, but no top entrance?>
I only bored the hole in the upper box . The insulating cover is turned
over so that the notch is up. The top is completely closed.
My hives do have bottom entrances. The bees seem to prefer the holes.
I have only one winter's experience with the auger holes. Allen would be a
better authority on mouse problems as he has used the augur holes for years.
I seldom got mice in my hives with the top entrances. The bees won't let
them in the top and the bottom entrances are closed to 1/4"x 3/4".
A question for Allen Dick: where do you get the plugcaps for closing the
holes?
Best regards
Donald Aitken
