"This year I put some supers on my 3 colony's and am wondering if I can
still take them this late in the season? "
Trust me when I say I am also a bee haver according to the same gentleman.
I just don't have the time to keep up with what needs to be done. I am in
Michigan and usually pull honey on Labor day or there abouts. A fitting job
for the day, even with just a few hives. I have found you can pull honey
most any time if you are willing to suffer the wrath of the bees when there
is nothing to work. That, IMO, is the biggest challenge to pulling late.
Even without excluders, the top supers, I have found, have been filled with
honey and the brood moved to lower boxes by this time, up here anyway.
