Mike asked:
Could some of you who have used these queens provide comments about any
issues related to the use of these queens. BTW, the queens will be used in
the panhandle of Florida.
This years queens from Browns Bees ( Australia)we some of the best yet but a
bit testy. No chalkbrood.
I helped install a 150 queens in central Florida ( Bell Honey) from Taylors
Bees (Australia) in January. I spoke with the beekeeper a couple weeks ago
and he said good bees and no chalkbrood.
The only issue many have with the Australian bees has been the stigma from
chalkbrood issues reported in Canada. Both myself and Danny Weaver have told
Australian queen producers U.S. beekeepers will not buy Australian queens
with chalkbrood issues.
Dann Purvis help solve the Browns bees chalkbrood issues And apparently the
Weavers ( perhaps the most famous queen producing family) helped Taylor Bees
solve theirs.
I think queens from either of these suppliers ( the two largest) would work
for your friend!
Both myself and Bell Hill Honey ( Missouri) run around half our bees
Australian ( from Browns Bees).
