Thanks, Dee.  I've read a number of studies on salt in bee diet.  In
general, they find sodium chloride to be toxic at relatively low levels.

However, most beekeepers observe that bees often seek out slightly salty
water sources.  At least one published article found that bees preferred
slightly salty water, and appeared to thrive.

A number of beeks actually put salt, trace mineral salt, or iodide salt into
their pollen supp or as a patty in the hive, and some feel that the bees are
better for it.

The whole salt issue leaves me with many questions!
