Or do what I do. Lay out several shallow - no deeper than 2 bees - trays on top of the inner cover. Put an empty super on top of the inner cover for protection. Pour feed into the trays after sunset. (Use only enough feed for the bees to take down overnight!) Place a telescoping cover over the super. Repeat for several nights as needed.
By morning the feed will be stored and the 'flow' excitement will have expired..

I always place the feral honey combs on the inner cover with a super. The bees draw out new frames. The emptied feral combs get melted down. I do use screened bottoms.
